Adult Co-Ed

Adult learning - GROW and connect

Highland takes seriously the Bible's call to help people GROW in their relationship with Jesus.  We would encourage everyone to consider attending a Bible study in addition to worship services. There are many opportunities for learning to take place including:

Adult Sunday School Classes

Sunday school meets from the week after Labor Day until the week before Memorial Day (so essentially the school year).   A complete listing of the classes offered can be found in the Highland Happenings Publication found on the Publications and Forms page of this site.

Co-Ed Classes

All of Highland's adult class offerings are co-ed unless specifically labeled as "men" or "women." Typically all Sunday school classes are co-ed.  In addition, there are still in-person co-ed evening classes at some of our campus sites. Life Groups are co-ed unless noted otherwise.  All of Highland's classes welcome new participants at any time and many do not require any special resource material in order to participate.  Look for on-going studies or open adult Life Groups listed in the back section of Highland Happenings on the Publications and Forms page of this site.

Adult Life Groups

A Life Group is a small group of people that meets weekly or biweekly to study God’s Word together, discuss the issues and challenges of life, pray, and care for one another. Reasons Life Groups can be important in your life:

*Developing friendships
*Caring for one another with practical help and personal encouragement
*Celebrating joyful occasions
*Having fun together
*Serving side by side with group members as we seek to serve others
*Encouraging outreach within the walls of Highland Community Church
*Share the love of Jesus Christ in the communities in which we live.
If you’d like to join, lead, or host an adult Life Group, please contact Janna Janke at   or 715-842-5683 with your name and contact information.

Nifty Fifties+ and Golden Oldies Group

If you are age 50 (ish) or older, these two groups meets monthly for a social time at a variety of area restaurants.  Check Highland's calendar or the Highland Happenings publication on the Publications and Forms page for any upcoming events for either group.

Journeys

If you are widowed, divorced, or have never married, you are welcome at Journeys. Journeys—a ministry for single adults over 40—is an opportunity for you to grow in Christ, study God’s Word, find true significance, renew your hope, receive help in overcoming past hurts, learn to forgive and be forgiven, enjoy the company of like-minded singles, and develop genuine godly friendships within this safe environment.

The center of our Journeys ministry is the Friday night study. We do meet in-person during the school year from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Room B12 at Highland’s Wausau campus. The setting is “casual classroom” and the format is typically a short video presentation followed by lively discussion and prayer. We alternate between the study of a particular book of the Bible and topics of specific concern to single adults. It is not necessary to attend every meeting in order to enjoy the benefits of the class. Join us whenever you can. Journeys also provides periodic activities for fellowship:  movie nights, comedy nights, fire-pit cookouts, bike rides, scavenger hunts, mystery dinners, trips to museums, Christmas parties, etc.

It is not the intention of Journeys to be a dating service. While we understand that God, in His sovereignty, may bring two people together ultimately leading them to marriage, this is neither our purpose nor our focus.
