Our Story
God’s continuing story at Highland Community Church:
In 1984, a small group of Christ-followers desired to start a church in Central Wisconsin around the following vision: “glorifying God by helping people take the next step in their relationship to Christ.” Such a church strives to love God and to love people well (Matthew 22:37-40). Our desire is to be a gracious, Bible-guided congregation (2 Timothy 3:16-7) that yearns for those who are far from God to come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord (John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8-9).
To this end, this small group hired Ken Moberg, in 1985, as its first pastor. Ken remained as the lead pastor for 16 years during which God allowed the church to both grow numerically and to build the initial Wausau facility (phases I, 2).
Pastor Jeff Hinds became our second (and present) senior pastor in 2002. God continues to be gracious and the congregation has grown numerically, requiring the Wausau facility to be expanded two more times (phases 3, 4). In 2015/2016 (phase 4) we were blessed to add a secure children's wing to the Wausau Campus to allow for growth in our children's and youth ministries. In addition, God has graced us with additional campus sites in Weston (2008), Marathon (2013), and Merrill (2019): we are one church in four locations. With expanded ministries, we are blessed with many vocational and volunteer staff that seek to share the love of Christ both locally and globally.
Highland has always had a strong commitment: to love God and love others; teach the Word of God in an exegetical and practical way; support local and global missions; and minister, with grace, to all ages.
